Random Thoughts: Racial politics?
I cannot help but think that many of those criticizing just about every move President Obama makes, and spewing such hateful remarks about him, are doing so not simply because they disagree with his politics but for another shameful reason. Kathy Rohs Anti-Broun bias The Banner-Herald's Sept. 6 front-page story headlined "Broun rails and eyes roll," simply promotes the liberal position against Republican U.S. Rep. Paul Broun. Your reporter, and your editors, were not reporting the news here, or your headline would have read, "Broun attacks Obama, Dems hit back." Instead, this is an op-ed slamming Broun, posing as hard news. Contrary to the story's suggestion, President Obama does support a national security force. In July 2008, he said, "We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that are set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded." This effort to present an attack on Broun as hard news shows the increasing influence of Obama supporters over the press. More balance, please; it might increase your circulation.
